3D Printed Furniture Pad Foot Mounts for Standing Desk

I recently got a standing desk and while moving furniture around to make space, I’ve started to understand how valuable it is to use furniture pads. It makes it very easy to move furniture (or desks in this case) around without damaging the floor. You can get casters for standing desks, however due to it’s height, it could reduce the minimize height of the standing desk by 2 inches.

My previous desk had furniture pads installed (thanks past Kevin 🤗) and I decided I wanted the same on my new desk. There were many issues that prevented me from “only” sticking on a future pad to the foot levelers from the standing desk. Those being:

  1. The furniture pads were a different size than the foot levelers. This would also cause dust and other nasty stuff to get stuck to the exposed adhesive over time.
  2. The foot levelers did not have a flat bottom (ie. furniture pads would not stick well).
  3. It would look ugly 😅

So I designed to design an foot mount adapter to solve these issues.

How I Designed It

Fusion 360.

Notes:

  • The furniture pad internal dimension is 58mm.
  • The foot leveler internal dimension is 48mm.

Printing Tips

  • Print with supports.
  • Be very careful not to damage lip when removing the support material. I found it useful to use a small pick tool to start, and then the putty knife/scrapper that comes with most 3D printers.

Installation Instructions/Tips

  • Add hot glue or double side tape to the foot levelers. This will make it easier to user the leveler adjustment. I like this Scotch Tape Double Sided Tape or this double sided carpet tape. Both are really handy to have on hand for various projects. For hot glue guns, I recommend a dual temp dripless model. It’s a game changer vs a typical craft store model. I have a Surebonder model which is no longer sold, but you may want to check these ones out. Like they say, “buy once, cry once“.
